Human Design and Sexuality by Lauren Armstrong

In this podcast episode, I talk with Lauren Armstrong where she shares insights to how Human Design, intimacy, and sex intermix, 

What is Human Design?

Human Design is a combination between ancient systems of Chinese eachings: the chakra system, the Kabbalah, tree of life, and astrology and modern science which is quantum physics, genetics, and biochemistry. All of those systems combine to give us this beautiful energetic blueprint of how we are energetically wired to interact with the world around us. Human Design is based on your time and place of birth.

What are the 5 types of Human Design?

One of the 5 types are called the projectors. These are the leaders and the guides. They’re here to lead other guides, other people’s energies. When we’re in alignment, we’re feeling a deep feeling of success. When we’re out of alignment, we’re going to feel really bitter or annoyed. Projectors make up 20% of the population. 

Then we have our generators and manifesting generators which make up about 70% of the population. These are people who are here to be creative. They wake up with a full tank of gas, or energy, every day, and they’re here to use it. They’re here to use it in really satisfying ways throughout the day and go to bed delightfully exhausted. When they’re in alignment, they’re going to feel this deep feeling of satisfaction. When they’re out of alignment, they’re going to feel really frustrated. We call generators and manifesting generators the builders and the express builders, respecitvely. There is so much creative, lifeforce energy to build, to create, to do. There is also a lot of consistent sexual energy there. 

And then we have our manifesters, which are about 9% of the population. Manifesters are deeply impactful and forceful energies. They are here to initiate. They’re here to get things started. They’re here to inform you, to tell you what’s going on and get the ball rolling for the rest of us. When they’re in alignment, they’re going to feel this deep sense of peace. And when they’re out of alignment, they’re going to feel really angry or pissed off. 

Lastly, reflectors are about 1% of the population. They have a completely open white body graph, which is like the representation of human design. Meaning, they are taking in energy from all around them, and they’re reflecting it back. They’re really like a mirror for who they’re around and the environments they’re in. When they’re in alignment, they are surprised and delighted. When they’re out of alignment, they feel really disappointed. 

How can Human Design relate to intimacy and sex?
Within the human design chart, there is a channel, or a strength, within the design. It’s the channel of intimacy or the strength of intimacy. These are gate 59 and gate 6 combined, and that creates the channel of intimacy. Gate 59 is really all around sexuality and intimacy. And it corresponds to the sexual power of the sacral center. It’s the drive to reproduce and to experiment and experience intimacy in romantic and platonic relationships. Gate 6, which is friction and intimacy controls emotions and reproduction and governs when we’re open or closed to intimacy in both platonic and romantic partnerships. Together those form the channel of intimacy, which is from the emotional center to the sacral center. The emotional center is all about emotion, how you’re actually feeling about it. The friction gate, gate 6, comes off of that emotional center. For the sacral center, gate 59 is all about lifeforce energy. It’s the energy to generate and create and be effective. You’re going to have that consistent access, if you have that full channel, because you’re going to either be a generator or a manifesting generator. 

A projector, a manifester, or reflector is going to have an undefined sacral center. We’re going to have inconsistent access to that sexual energy. That doesn’t mean it’s not as much as it means inconsistent. So we don’t wake up every day with the same amount of sexual energy. We are actually here to be wise around sexuality. If we’re an undefined sacral center, it’s one of our wisdom potentials, but it also can be one of our greatest shadows, which looks like overcompensating or like feeling like you have to have sex or not creating any boundaries around it.
